Night-time sweat soaks into the mattress with no barrier in between. Over time, this damages the materials and encourages the growth of mould. Cotton protectors absorb moisture and reduce the build-up of dust mites on the sleeping surface. For anyone with respiratory sensitivity, washing the protector frequently is the most effective measure.
Breathability and Temperature Regulation
Protectors in natural fibres regulate the temperature of the sleeping surface through the night. Cotton is the most breathable choice for general use, while Tencel adds enhanced moisture control and a softer feel. Both avoid the excess heat generated by waterproof synthetic protectors.

A thickness of between 3 and 7 cm is enough to make a real difference. A greater thickness requires fitted sheets with a deeper pocket for a proper fit.

TENCEL™ Lyocell
A plant-based fibre obtained from wood pulp sourced from sustainably managed forests. It stands out for its extraordinary capacity to absorb and release moisture, its silky feel and its excellent thermal regulation, offering a pleasant sense of coolness and comfort throughout the night.
Corn Fibre
A plant-based fibre obtained from renewable resources. It is light, breathable and hypoallergenic, offers good moisture regulation and is a sustainable alternative with a pleasant, natural feel.

Care and Washing of Mattress Protectors
Cotton, down and goose feather, TENCEL (Lyocell) and corn fibre mattress protectors keep their properties for years with proper care.
In general, we recommend washing them according to the label instructions, using mild detergents and avoiding excessive temperatures for both washing and drying.
For down and goose feather models, thorough drying is especially important to preserve the loft and insulating capacity of the filling, while natural and plant-based fibres such as cotton, TENCEL (Lyocell) and corn fibre stand out for their easy care and their resistance to frequent use and washing.

What is the difference between a mattress protector and a mattress topper?
The protector protects the surface of the mattress without changing its feel. The topper adds a layer of filling that improves your sleep. These are complementary functions: the protector looks after the mattress, the topper improves how you sleep on it.
Does a mattress protector change the feel of the bed?
A thin protector barely changes the feel of the mattress. A quilted protector or a mattress topper do add noticeable comfort from the first night. If the goal is simply hygienic protection, a thin protector is enough; if you want to improve your sleep, a topper is the right choice.
