Bath Linen
At Matarranz, we offer bathroom textiles for the home, including towels, bathrobes and bath mats made from high-weight cotton and 100% linen. Our fabrics are selected for their excellent absorbency, softness to the touch and resistance to frequent use and washing. A collection designed for everyday care, combining the highest quality with thoughtful design. Stores in Madrid (21 Lagasca) and San Sebastián (20 San Marcial).
Bath Linen
Towels, bathrobes and bath mats in 100% cotton and linen. Absorbency, softness and comfort for the bathroom.
At Matarranz we select bath linen for the home — towels, bathrobes and bath mats — in high-gsm cotton and 100% linen. Textiles chosen for how much water they hold, how they feel against the skin and how they stand up to frequent washing, with the same attention to fibre and finishing as the rest of our selection since 1911. Shops in Madrid, Lagasca 21, and San Sebastián, San Marcial 20.
Bath linen covers the textiles that go with washing and dressing every day: towels in several formats, bathrobes with real body to them, and bath mats that absorb properly underfoot. Each piece is selected on the quality of the fibre, the density of the weave and how it behaves in ordinary use. The result is a set of textiles that keep their properties as the years pass.

Towels, Bathrobes and Bath Mats: A Coordinated Selection

Bath Towels in Cotton and Linen
Our bath towels are made in high-gsm cotton and in 100% linen, in four formats: face cloth, hand towel, bath towel and bath sheet. Each is chosen for absorbency, soft handle and resistance to frequent washing. A high weight in cotton gives a dense, enveloping feel; linen gives lightness and quick drying.

Bathrobes
A bathrobe carries the comfort of the bath or the shower on past the bathroom door. We make ours in 100% cotton at a high weight: the density of the cloth is what determines both how much water it takes up and how substantial it feels on. Available in a range of sizes.

Bath Mats
Bath mats complete the bathroom with a surface that absorbs and that is pleasant to stand on. Ours are made in high-gsm cotton, which holds water and releases it quickly. They coordinate in colour and material with the rest of the bath collection.
Bath Linen in Cotton and Linen: Properties and Differences
The fibre decides the handle, the absorbency, the weight and how the piece behaves in the wash. For bath linen we work with two.

High-GSM Cotton
Cotton is the reference fibre for towels and bathrobes. Its structure takes up water efficiently and gives it back during drying without losing loft. At a high weight it feels denser and more enveloping. With each wash the fibres open slightly and the towel gains in softness, and it withstands the frequent washing that daily use in a bathroom means.

100% Linen
Linen makes lighter towels and mats that dry noticeably faster than cotton. The texture is firmer at first and softens with use. It breathes exceptionally well and is naturally antimicrobial. It suits anyone who wants a light towel with a textile character of its own, or a piece with a different finish to sit alongside the rest.
Towel Weight: What GSM Means and How to Choose
The weight of a towel, expressed in grams per square metre (gsm), tells you the density of the cloth. A higher weight gives a heavier, denser towel that holds more water. A lower weight gives a lighter towel that dries faster.
For ordinary domestic use, weights between 500 and 600 gsm give the best balance of absorbency, softness and ease of washing. In hospitality, or in bathrooms that dry slowly, a higher weight gives more body and a fuller feel. Weight is not the only criterion: the fibre, the making and the structure of the terry pile matter as much as grams per square metre.

Coordinating the Textiles in a Bathroom
A bathroom that has been thought about textile by textile works in tones that answer each other across the towels, the bathrobe and the mat. Whites and naturals are the most adaptable: they sit with any tiling and stay legible year after year. Stone, sand and flax bring visual warmth and work particularly well with wood, marble and unglazed ceramic.
For hospitality projects, or residential interiors where consistency between pieces is a requirement rather than a preference, the whole Matarranz bath collection is available in the same colours and can be coordinated in a single order. More in our contract textiles section.
Caring for Cotton and Linen Bath Linen
- Follow the care label. Composition and weight determine the right temperature and programme.
- Wash before first use. This activates the cotton and linen fibres and improves absorbency from the first wash, by removing the dressings left from manufacture.
- Cotton: 40°C maximum, preferably on a long cycle.
- Linen: 30°C maximum on a delicate programme. Hang while still slightly damp.
- Go easy on the fabric conditioner. Used in quantity it reduces the absorbency of cotton over time.
- Store dry and well aired. Do not put damp towels away; that is where the smell comes from.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does bath linen for the home include?
Bath linen covers the textiles for washing and everyday comfort in the bathroom: towels in their various formats (face cloth, hand towel, bath towel, bath sheet), bathrobes and bath mats. The whole Matarranz collection is made in 100% cotton and linen, with no synthetic blends.
What weight should a good towel be?
For ordinary domestic use, weights between 500 and 600 gsm give a good balance of absorbency, softness and drying. A higher weight gives a denser, more enveloping towel, though it may take a little longer to dry in a poorly ventilated room. Weight is not the only factor: the fibre and the making are decisive in the result.
Are cotton or linen towels better?
It depends on the use. High-gsm cotton absorbs more, feels more enveloping and copes better with frequent washing. Linen is lighter, dries faster and has a more pronounced textile character. Both fibres are natural and both last. For heavy daily use, cotton is the usual choice; for anyone who prefers a lighter towel with a different handle, linen is the alternative.
How do I choose towel sizes?
The format determines the use. A face cloth is the smallest, for the face. A hand towel covers hands and everyday use. A bath towel is the standard format for drying after a shower. A bath sheet gives more cover and a more enveloping feel. For hotel or residential projects with specific dimensions, we make to measure in the same materials as the catalogue.
Can you supply bath linen for hospitality or interiors projects?
Yes. We work with hotels and other high-end accommodation, and with interior design projects that need towels, bathrobes and bath mats matched across pieces and repeatable on reorder without variation. For professional enquiries, contact the team.
Bath Linen and Bed Linen: One Selection
Matarranz bath linen belongs to a wider selection of textiles for the home. The attention given to fibre and to finishing in the bed linen collection is the same attention given to towels, bathrobes and mats — the same criteria applied to the cloth since 1911.
