At Matarranz, we offer a selection of duvets with natural fillings and select fibres: down, hollowfibre, bamboo and Tencel. Available in weights for every season and in standard sizes from a 90 cm bed to a 200 cm bed, with special sizes available to order. We have worked with private customers and hospitality projects since 1911.

Duvets

Duvets with natural fillings and select fibres. High quality and balanced thermal comfort for every season.

The duvet determines the temperature through the night and the style of the bed during the day. An unsuitable filling generates excess heat, loses its loft after washing, or fails to cover the bed properly. Choosing the right filling, weight and size are the three decisions that make the difference between a high-quality duvet that lasts for seasons and one that needs replacing every year.

At Matarranz, we select duvets for their real properties: thermal capacity, ease of care and durability. Every piece comes in a duvet cover made in the same fabrics as the rest of the collection.

Duvets in Natural Fillings and Select Fibres: Down, Hollowfibre, Bamboo and Tencel

The filling determines the thermal behaviour, texture and comfort of the duvet. At Matarranz, we work with four high-quality fillings:

Down: The Filling with the Best Warmth-to-Weight Ratio

Duck or goose down is the filling with the greatest insulating capacity per unit of weight. A down duvet provides significant warmth with a light, fluffy loft and a low weight. It improves with use: it recovers its loft with body heat, night after night. It is the reference filling in high-category hospitality and for bedrooms where maximum thermal comfort in the winter months is the main criterion.

Hollowfibre: Easy Care and Versatile Design

Hollowfibre is the filling with the greatest design versatility and the easiest care. Its tubular structure creates air pockets that replicate the effect of down, with simpler washing behaviour: it can be machine washed on a delicate cycle. It is the most suitable option for those with a down allergy, and for intensive use where ease of care is a requirement.

bambu-750x650-f50_50

Bamboo: Freshness and Natural Texture

Bamboo fibre combines softness, freshness and naturally antimicrobial properties. Its texture is soft and its weight is light. It pairs well with linen and cotton in the duvet cover, for a bedroom set that is coherent in natural fibres. It is the most suitable option for summer or mid-season duvets.

tencel-750x650-f50_50

Tencel: Thermal Regulation, Stable Colour and Sustainable Origin

Tencel — plant-based lyocell — is the filling with the best moisture-regulating capacity. It keeps its colour stable wash after wash and retains its original texture with use. It is particularly suitable for those who sleep hot or experience night sweats, and for bedrooms where the sustainability of the material is a deciding factor.

Duvets by Season: Summer, Winter and All-Seasons

The weight of the filling determines the seasonal range of the duvet. Choosing correctly avoids having to replace the duvet between seasons, or sleeping at an unsuitable temperature.

Summer Duvets

Weights of between 100 and 200 g/m². Bamboo or Tencel fillings for the coolest options. Their light design and breathability are the main criteria for the warmer months.

edredones-invierno-750x650-f50_50

Winter Duvets

Weights above 300 g/m². Down or hollowfibre in a heavier weight for maximum warmth in the winter months. For bedrooms without sufficient heating, or in cold climates, down in weights of 400 g/m² or above is the standard for the best thermal performance.

All-Seasons Duvets: Two Duvets in One

All-seasons duvets combine two pieces joined by poppers: a lightweight duvet for summer and a heavier one for winter. They remove the need to store and replace the duvet between seasons, and are the most practical option for hotel projects where seasonal versatility is an operational requirement.

Duvet Sizes: A Guide by Bed Type

  • 90 cm bed: 150 x 220 cm duvet.
  • 135 cm bed: 180 x 220 cm duvet.
  • 150 cm bed: 200 x 220 cm duvet. The most requested size.
  • 180 cm bed: 220 x 240 cm duvet.
  • 200 cm bed (king size): 240 x 220 cm duvet, or a special size to order.

For beds outside our standard sizes, or for hotel projects with their own dimensions, we make to order.

How to Wash and Care for a Duvet, Depending on Its Filling

  • Down: machine wash on a delicate cycle at 30–40°C. Tumble dry on a low setting to restore the loft. Add tennis balls to the dryer to redistribute the filling evenly.
  • Hollowfibre: machine wash on a delicate cycle at 40–60°C. Suitable for tumble drying. Ease of care is the main advantage of this filling.
  • Bamboo and Tencel: machine wash at 30–40°C on a delicate cycle. Dry flat or tumble dry on a low setting. Do not wring or spin at high speed.

A mattress protector extends the working life of the duvet by reducing direct exposure to sweat and moisture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Down offers greater insulating capacity per unit of weight than hollowfibre. At an equivalent weight, a down duvet is warmer and lighter. Hollowfibre compensates with easier care and a lower cost. For maximum warmth in the winter months, down in weights above 400 g/m² is the standard for the best thermal performance.

For a 150 cm bed, we recommend a 200 x 220 cm duvet. This size guarantees a correct 25 cm drop on each side. If the mattress is deeper than 25 cm, or you prefer greater side coverage, a 220 x 240 cm duvet offers more room.

An all-seasons duvet combines two pieces — one lightweight and one heavier — joined by poppers. They can be used separately in summer and winter, or together in the coldest months. They are the best option for anyone who prefers not to replace the duvet between seasons, and for hotel projects where seasonal versatility is an operational requirement.

Yes. Both bamboo and Tencel are naturally breathable fibres that regulate temperature effectively. Bamboo has natural antimicrobial properties and a soft handle. Tencel manages body moisture with particular efficiency: it absorbs and releases moisture quickly, making it especially suitable for people who sleep hot or experience night sweats.

Yes. We work with hotels, holiday apartments and interior design projects that need duvets in specific weights, consistency across batches, and the ability to reorder without variation. For beds outside our standard sizes, we make to order. Bed linen for hotels is produced to the same standards as our regular range.
